Rotary funds Joe Bernard Clinic

by: PHOTO COURTESY: DAVE MCDOWELL - During a ceremony at the club's weekly meeting, Heather Hobson, Milwaukie Rotary community service chairwoman, hands an oversized check to Jeff Dulcich, Providence Milwaukie Foundation board president, and Shirley Bernard, wife of Joseph M. Bernard Jr., the former Milwaukie mayor who died in June of 2012. The Milwaukie Rotary Club on April 30 presented a check in the amount of $10,775 to the Providence Milwaukie Foundation from proceeds raised at the Milwaukie Rotary Foundation’s annual auction held April 6.

Funds will support the new dental outreach clinic being built adjacent to the Providence Milwaukie Hospital. The clinic will provide basic and specialty dental care to low-income and uninsured patients.

The clinic will be named in memory of Joseph M. Bernard Jr., the former Milwaukie mayor who died in June 2012, as a lasting tribute for his involvement in the Milwaukie community. Bernard had been active in both the Milwaukie Rotary and the Providence Milwaukie Foundation.
