Thursday, December 13, 2012 at approximately 6:05 PM deputies from the Crook County Sheriff's Office along with Crook County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the report of a two vehicle motor vehicle crash with unknown injuries on Highway 126 at the Powell Butte Post Office.
Upon arrival deputies located a white 1996 Subaru Wagon facing eastbound partially blocking the eastbound lane. They also located a white 2012 Lincoln Navigator in the parking lot of the Powell Butte Post Office.
The investigation into the cause of the crash determined that the driver of the Lincoln Navigator, Sherrie Rhoden age 52 of Prineville had been traveling westbound on Highway 126 attempting to turn left into the post office parking lot. It was determined that Rhoden's vehicle turn directly into the path of the eastbound Subaru that was being driven by Tandy Sasser age 53 of Prineville. At that point the two vehicles collided.
Rhoden and a juvenile passenger were uninjured in the crash. Sasser was transported to the Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Prineville by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. It was determined that all occupants were wearing their seatbelts, and the airbags did deploy. The Sheriff's Office was assisted in the investigation by the Oregon State Police. The crash is still under investigation. No citations have been issued.
