As good as the North Marion athletic programs performed during the spring season, the student athletes representing the Huskies executed even better in the classroom.

The Oregon School Activities Association announced its Spring 2016-17 Academic All-State award winners and the Huskies ranked among the best in the state in their respective classifications.

All eight spring sports offered at North Marion High School garnered final grade-point averages that topped 3.0, with six of eight ranking in the top 10 among 4A programs.

At the top was the girls golf program, with a robust 3.72 GPA — the third best mark in the state among 4A girls golf programs.

The girls tennis program was not far behind, placing 10th with a 3.53 GPA. The softball team was next with a 3.51 GPA, the sixth-best mark among 4A clubhouses.

On the boys side, the baseball team led the way for the Huskies with a GPA of 3.43 to rank fourth among 4A schools.

The academic success was a continuation of what North Marion had been achieving throughout the 2016-17 school year.

During the winter season, North Marion's boys and girls swim and basketball programs, along with its wrestling and cheer programs, all had GPAs above the 3.0 threshold required to earn All-Academic status by the OSAA.

In the fall season, North Marion's girls soccer, boys cross country and volleyball programs each had GPAs above 3.0.
