The Cougars earn a spot in the first round, where they will face Jesuit on the road.
The Canby volleyball team gave Portland-Westview a good indication of how tough the Three Rivers League really is.
The Cougars won just two matches during the regular season, but they cruised to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-14) sweep of Westview in the Class 6A play-in round at home Oct. 26.
The victory propelled Canby into the state bracket, where it will face Jesuit in the first round on the road at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 30.
The Cougars have not met Jesuit in an official match since 2010, when they lost 3-0 in preseason play.
First-year coach T.J. Schlatters team entered its pivotal game against Westview on the heels of a 3-0 shutout loss at the hands of Lakeridge, which ended up being one of the three automatic state qualifiers from the TRL.
Last year, under then-coach Caitlin Gustin, Canby swept South Eugene in the play-in round before falling to Hillsboro-Century in straight sets in the first round.
