The TREE TEASE

Who it is that decorates a small tree along Logging Road Trail is still a mystery

by: AMANDA ULRICH - The Holiday Tree adorned for Easter.Amanda Ulrich calls herself a running nerd.

The 1997 Canby High School graduate puts in 6-7 miles on weekends and is no stranger to marathons, 5Ks and other races.

One thing she likes about running is you never know what you might run across.

Her jaunts take her to a pedestrian path off the Logging Road Trail populated with trees, flowers, critters. One foggy, cold morning last Christmas, sitting just off the path, she discovered a hidden treasure she calls the Holiday Tree.

It’s no big thing. It’s just a small tree.

by: AMANDA ULRICH - The Holiday Tree decked out for St. Patrick's Day.But there it sat in its little wilderness, adorned in Christmas finery, festooned with red ribbons, gold tinsel, bright ornaments and an ornamental tree topper.

Ulrich was impressed. And delighted. She took a picture.

Then running her path in mid-January, she found the tree decorated in red and pink for Valentine’s Day.

She took another picture.

In March, she found the tree wearing the green for St. Patrick’s Day, complete with shamrocks, a garland of green and a leprechaun top hat tree topper.

She took another picture.

She posts her tree photos and chronicles discoveries on her Reasonably Unreasonable blog on the Internet.

“I love it,” she said. “I love that tree.”

As to who decorates the tree she has no idea.

“There are homes near there,” she said. “I don’t know if it’s someone there or somebody who comes to decorate it.”

She looks forward to each holiday and the tree decorations they might bring. She hasn’t been disappointed.

When she ran there Sunday, March 23, there it was, already decorated for Easter. Pink, green and yellow garlands draped its boughs, colorful Easter eggs dangled from its branches, all capped off by an Easter bunny tree topper.

Before long, the Fourth of July will be coming up. Think of all the red-white-and-blue possibilities.
