Reforestation workshop set for first of February
In response to the recent increase in harvest activity and anticipation of the need for reforestation this spring, OSU Extension Service will offer the workshop, Plant Your Trees Right!, focusing on reforestation on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The workshop is presented by OSU Extension Service in cooperation with Port Blakely Tree Farms at its Molalla tree farm property, 31644 South Grimm Road in Molalla.
This reforestation workshop includes an informal classroom session covering the basic steps in tree planting: site preparation, seed sources, nursery availability, tree seedling types, care, and maintenance.
The workshop concludes in the field where attendees will learn about different kinds of planting tools, proper seedling handling and storage, planting techniques, and protection from animal damage. A variety of tools and seedling stock types and species will be provided for practice.
Attendees should dress for the weather as a significant portion of the workshop is outdoors. Bring lunch and something to drink.
Cost is $20 per family. Advance registration required. Call OSU Extension Service at 503-655-8632 for more information.
