Canby Educational Foundation grants help five programs

The Canby Educational Foudation has awarded grants to help local programs.

The nonprofit organization focuses on enriching Canby-area student’s educational experience.

Those programs are:

  • Teacher Adoption Program – a district-wide volunteer recruitment program coordinated by Tracie Heidt. For more information, call 503-336-3604.
  • Building Confidence Through Performance – This is a continuation of Ackerman Academy’s Building School Identity Through the Arts project begun last year with musician Ellen Whyte. Students will study rhythm and percussion, chord progressions and melody, and writing lyrics, culminating in a spring performance for the community.
  • Knight Elementary School – Sixth-graders from the school will complete a ropes course this fall, helping to building trust and teamwork. The entire student body at Knight Elementary will benefit both in and out of school hours from CEF helping fund an IXL Math License allowing individual programs suited to each child and available for one entire calendar year.
  • Model United Nations -- Canby High School’s Model United Nations class and club will again have funds to attend the Model UN Conference in Eugene this in April. Students will study Myanmar (Burma) and Sweden. Participants study issues facing our world today and become ‘delegates’ for those countries. Student will debate current global issues with other delegates representing other countries.
  • Canby Educational Foundation continues to sell discounted Canby Cinema 8 ticket vouchers as a fundraiser. Children over 12 years of age and adults for evening show times are $8.50 at the theater, $7 through CEF. Senior and matinee tickets are $6 rather than $6.50.

Vouchers are for sale at Canby schools, online at canbyedfoundation.org through PayPal, or by contacting Mary Walsh at 503-263-9299 or at 503-516-2631.
