Lion Club barbecue at the fair set for Friday

The Canby Lions Club will be offering a beef BBQ at the Clackamas County Fair Friday, beginning at noon and going until the food is gone.

The event is located on the fairgrounds at the Grove which is found at the further east side of the fairgrounds in a beautiful grove of old growth fir trees.

Menu includes Traeger cooked BBQ beef with bun, corn on the cob, watermelon and drink. Prices will be around $9 for a full meal.

Proceeds from the project will be used to help finance projects of the Canby Lions Club that include eyeglasses, hearing aids, gym shoes for grade school kids, Project Kids and scholarships to high school seniors.

Vacation Bible School starts Aug. 19

Christ Lutheran and Aurora Presbyterian churches will hold "Everywhere Fun Fair" Vacation Bible School, Monday through Thursday, Aug. 19-22, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The VBS is open to children 4 years old through fifth grade and will be held at Aurora Presbyterian on Liberty Street in Aurora.

Canby Center has school supply drive

The Canby Center will begin a school supply drive Monday at Thriftway and local churches.

The Canby Center seeks basic school supplies such as crayons, colored pencils, glue sticks, pencils, notebook paper, markers, facial tissues, and one-inch three ring binders. Backpacks will be collected as well.

Annual Aurora post and auxiliary lunch set for Saturday

This year's Aurora American Legion Post and Auxiliary Unit 110 picnic will be held at Koutny's Korner at 2781 J St. in Hubbard on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Park cars on South Third Street near unit member Bev Koutny's house or on the other side of Third (no houses).

Commander Barbara Provo reminds members to take a potluck dish and tableware. Assistant Girls State chairman Bernie Ward will have North Marion High School Girls State delegates Jassure’ Selvas, Hannah Surcamp and Jasmine Torres share their experience of the June session at Willamette University.

Canby realty office helping with school supplies

The Canby office of Better Homes & Gardens Realty Partners will hold a school supply drive.

The office at 489 SW First Ave. will be the dropoff site for new or gentlyused backpacks and new school supplies.

Friends of French Prairie plan fundraiser

Friends of French Prairie will hold its annual French Prairie Farm Feast on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. at the Newell House Museum next to Champoeg State Park.

This fundraiser offers a full course dinner prepared from products grown in French Prairie and celebrates local agriculture.

Cost is $45 per person and includes wine and cheese hour and full course buffet dinner with desert, served with two local wines. Event also includes a silent auction-raffle. Full details, including menu and online reservations are on the Farm Feast page at: www.friendsoffrenchprairies.org.

CAC to clown around on Grandparents Day

The Canby Adult Center will celebrate Grandparents Day, Aug. 22, with clowns Blossom and Baloney on hand to paint faces, create balloon animals and demonstrate clown magic.

The CAC invites kids, grandkids, any kids at all, to stop by for clowning and a hamburger feed at 11:30 a.m. The event is $3 for children ages 11-under, $4.25 for ages 12 to 59. It is donation only for attendees age 60 and above.
