The sounds of soul

Soul VaccinationThe third concert in Canby’s Slice of Summer concert series will be Soul Vaccination Sunday. The grand finale will be The Coats a cappella group from Seattle Aug. 11.

Soul Vaccination is one of the hottest funk and soul bands currently performing in the Pacific Northwest. The band infuses the stage with soul standards and has been a fixture on the local scene for more than 16 years, bringing tunes from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Earth Wind &Fire and Tower of Power to the stage.

The band’s third CD, “What is Hip?” features legendary Tower of Power guitarist Bruce Conte, was recently given three-and-a-half stars by DownBeat Magazine.

The current 12-piece band features Dave Aston on the Hammond B-3 and keyboards, Max Rees on guitar, Grammy nominated producer John Linn on the bass and Edwin Coleman III on drums. Soulful vocals are handled by Paul Creighton, Mark Wyatt and Regina K. Lewis Livermore and Dave Mills play trumpets, with Ron Regan, Gary Harris and Timothy Bryson on saxophone.
