Thanks offered for success of charity auction

Letter to Canby Herald Editor John Baker from the week of March 6

Last month the Knights of Columbus Council 3484 hosted its 20th Annual Crab Dinner and Charity Auction. The Clackamas County Fairgrounds was filled to capacity with generous community minded neighbors who opened their hearts to many deserving local charities.

This year it was our honor to facilitate a paddle raiser for "Sparks of Hope." Sparks of Hope is a local organization run entirely by volunteers that empowers children who have been victims of abuse. Through camps and mentoring, much needed healing occurs and these children are able to develop trust and a sense of worth. In a matter of minutes $15,000 was raised by generous attendees with all of the money going directly to this worthwhile cause. Additional money raised from the evening's event will go to other charities such as the St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank, the Canby Center, Oregon Special Olympics, Fr. Taaffe Homes, Canby Pregnancy Care Center, Canby High School scholarships and the Canby Share the Warmth program.

This event would not be possible without the generosity of our many donors. A huge thank you goes out to the many local businesses and individuals who donated goods and services to the event. Thank you also to the Knights and their families who devoted their time and energy into making this fundraiser such a success.

We especially want to thank the folks in our community who loyally come out each year to support the Knights in their endeavor to help those in need. We look forward to seeing you next year.
