Savings are great, but smell needs work, too

To the editor:

Having just read the article titled “Sweet Smell of Savings,” I appreciate that the staff at Canby's waste treatment plant are in the cost savings mode.

Having said that, I have to add that it would be good to have a 'sweeter smell' when walking past the treatment plant along the beautiful, popular Logging Road walking/biking trail.

There are times, more often during the summer months, when covering your nose and walking swiftly by the stench that is emitted is intolerable.

Once past you reach the beautiful view of the Willamette River at the turn-around and then your second exposure to the smell on the way out. Applying those energy savings to smell abatement would be a good deal indeed.

Good to see wastewater staff saving city money

To the editor:

Hats off to the management and staff of Canby's wastewater treatment plant. By taking the long view and applying sustainable operation practices, they have saved the city thousands of dollars and helped preserve natural resources.

More and more businesses and municipalities are finding that sustainability is not a buzz-word, but good business sense. I'm delighted that our wastewater treatment plant team is one of them.
