ODOT says closures will Occurr run from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, though local access to businesses on Highway 99E will be maintained.

DANIEL PEARSON - As ODOT workers preapre the roadway for repair work on Friday, July 21, one worker takes a photo of a Canby Herald photoghper taking photos of them setting up.The Molalla River Bridge on Highway 99E on the south end of Canby is in the midst of night closure through July 29.

The closures will run from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, though local access to businesses on Highway 99E will be maintained.

The northbound lane closures are necessary to allow crews to resurface the bridge. The bridge surface is deteriorating and finally failed last fall. Crews removed three inches of asphalt that were no longer adhering to the concrete bridge deck as a temporary solution to get through the wet season and, now that dry weather has returned, are preparing to finish the repairs.

The project will include preparing the bridge deck, applying a new waterproof membrane to protect the bridge structure and then paving the deck with three inches of asphalt.

Here are some highlights of the project:

Daytime impacts: The highway and bridge will be open each day in both directions between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Nighttime impacts: Five nights of construction from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. with northbound traffic over the bridge closed.

Northbound detour. Use South Lone Elder Road or South Barlow Road, then take Canby-Marquam Highway/South Ivy Street to reach Canby.

There may be days of inactivity between work days depending on the weather conditions. The schedule is subject to change based on unanticipated site conditions and material and crew demands.

Travelers should expect delays during construction. For real-time traffic details go to www.TripCheck.com, which is constantly updated and is the best resource for current information.

CAT will be affected

This affects Canby Area Transit's Route 99 between the Canby Transit Center and Woodburn. Because of the detour, CAT buses will not stop at three of CAT's northbound bus stops: 1024 (Barlow House), 1026 (U-Haul) and 1028 (Riverside Mobile Home Park) on the first trip in the morning or the last trip in the evening. Please plan accordingly. For more information call 503-266-4022.
