by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - New Canby Fire District 62 Chief James DavisCanby resident James Davis, a division chief with Tualatin Fire & Rescue, has been selected as the new chief for Canby Fire District 62.

His selection was announced at the regular Wednesday meeting of the fire district board of directors. He will succeed Ted R. Kunze, who retires July 1 after 16 years as the Canby chief.

Davis will assume command of the Canby district on July 16. Division Chief Tom O’Connor will serve as acting chief from June 26 until Davis comes aboard.

Davis has lived in Canby since 1996 and is a volunteer captain for the Canby district. He has more than 30 years experience as a chief fire officer, the last 15 with Tualatin Fire & Rescue.

Since 2010, he has served as the TVF&R division chief for central operations training and safety. Before that, he was its safety chief and operations battalion chief.
