The wonder of warbirds

Aviator Mike Carpentiero dresses the part of a barnstormer to take passengers aloft in his 1929 New Standard bi-plane at the Warbirds of the West event at the Aurora State Airport June 14.
The Aurora State Airport was a place where history, present and future met June 12-13-14 as the Warbirds of the West program touched down.

The event was hosted by Aurora Aviation and the B17 Alliance Group in Milwaukie, Ore. The group wants to archive the stories of the B-17 and preserve that legacy.

The group has a museum in Milwaukie and is in the process of restoring a B17, the Lacey Lady, back to flying condition.

The B-17 Alliance Group restoration team had a ball turret and the cockpit of the Lacey Lady on display.
