Canby fifth-grader delivers letter with the 'write' stuff
Carus Elementary School fifth-grader Allison Bassett was honored for her writing in the Letters About Literature contest, a state and national level program that encourages writing skills linked to literature.
Students enter the contest by writing a letter to an author, dead or alive, about the impact that the author's book, poem or essay, has made upon them. Allison had read Penny From Heaven by Jennifer Holm, a Newberry honor book.
Although the story takes place in 1953, Allison found a personal connection to the main character.
This contest is open to students grades four through 12 from the fall to winter.
