The Canby School District has begun its search for a successor to Superintendent John Steach who has accepted another job.
The district board of directors has hired the Window to Leadership search firm in West Linn to conduct the search to replace Steach.
Steach announced his pending departure in an April 16 email to district staff.
Last week I shared that I was being considered for another position outside of Canby, he wrote. In keeping you updated on the latest development, I was offered a position last night and have verbally accepted.
He said his new board asked that he refrain from any formal announcement identifying the district until it formally approves his hiring Tuesday (April 22) night.
The Canby School District board of directors was aware of the process and had set an early April deadline to start public discussing options and preparing for a possible search, Steach said in the email.
Steach has served as the Canby superintendent since July 1, 2011. Before that, he was deputy superintendent in the Richland (Wash.) School District.
Steach was twice considered for superintendent jobs in Washington state last year.
He was a finalist for the job in the South Kitsap School District in February and the Richland School District in April.
