The bookstore at the Canby Public Library has undergone several changes of late.
Friends of the Library have given the bookstore an official name The Book Garden. They are also overseeing physical improvements to the facility to make it more inviting.
The Friends will reintroduce the bookstore, with its new name and logo, Saturday, Nov. 16, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in conjunction with Music in the Stacks.
Friends of the Library is a nonprofit organization that depends on book sales, membership dues, and donations for support. It receives no financial support from city government.
All improvements in The Book Garden are paid for with funds from Friends fundraising activities or from donations from members or generous benefactors.
Friends of the Library accepts donations of gently used books, audio books (in good working order) magazines (not older than 3 months), DVDs, Blue Ray, and CDs. Proceeds from The Book Garden and Friends fundraising activities are used to support programs of the Canby Public Library that are not covered by city and county operating funds.
The group supports Music in the Stacks, childrens story puppets and summer reading programs.
Friends of the Library is looking for volunteers to help sort and shelve books in the Book Garden store, help with Book Garden book sales, serve as Friends board members and help with Friends of the Library membership recruitment. The 2014 membership drive has begun.
