Jakob Null understands the job and the tasks that job require. As a member of the Three Rivers 4-H Club, the 12-year-old Aurora resident had a nice grasps on the duties inherent in 'barn duty' during the Clackamas County Fair.
Null has been involved with Three Rivers for four years now, so when his club drew barn duty, he knew what was needed. He grabbed a broom and set about cleaning the aisles between the stalls as well as replenishing water where it's needed.
'I need to make sure I'm looking after the animals and keep things clean,' he said as he swept a swath clean in the goat area.
Null is raising two goats and had already competed Wednesday, earning a blue ribbon for one of the goats. From the show ring to a broom in the hand, raising goats has been a good experience.
'I like to work with the animals,' he said.
