Kiddie Kapers parade includes food drive

The Aug. 13 parade annually kicks off the Clackamas County Fair and Canby Rodeo

Kiddie Kapers Parade route map for 2013. This year’s Kiddie Capers Parade, the traditional kickoff for the Clackamas County Fair, will also be a food collection event for the local food bank.

On Tuesday, Aug. 13, the Canby Kiwanis Club will holds its 75th annual parade. The parade is open to kids of all ages and this year’s theme is “Fun for the Whole Herd,” same as the fair’s theme.

This year’s grand marshall will be the Canby Kiwanis Club itself as it celebrates its 75th anniversary.

Participation in the parade is still free, but this year the club would like those who participate to take a can of food to parade registration to donate.

Mike Boonstra, parade chairman, emphasized that any person could still participate in the parade even if they do not make a food donation.

The club will also have a trailer pulled by a tractor in the parade to collect food donations from parade-goers along the parade route. Members of the club and the Key Club, the high school service club sponsored by Kiwanis, will be accompanying the tractor and trailer to collect donations from spectators.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. Aug. 13 at Knight Elementary School. Registration forms may be picked up at the following locations: Canby Insurance & Investment, the Canby Public Library, Canby Herald and the fair office.

Judging will be limited to categories and ages listed on the registration form. Judging begins at 9 a.m., with the parade starting at 10 a.m. All parade participants will receive free admission to the Clackamas County Fair on the day of the parade.
