PREP FOOTBALL COVERAGE: The Prep Football tab at beavertonvalleytimes.com — you can see it by hovering over the Sports tab — will show you high school softball and baseball stories and photos by sports editors, reporters and photographers from 19 newspapers within our company. As the 2017 season continues, you can look for same-day coverage of each week's Friday night games from all our company's high school sports editors and reporters. As always, you'll still be able to find stories about our local high school teams on the regular sports tab of our website, but those stories — along with all the others created elsewhere within our company — will also appear on the new Prep Football tab. These stories will stay up on our respective websites throughout the season, making it easy to track down older game stories from weeks and even months ago. The coverage will proceed into the homestretch of conference play and extend throughout the postseason. Check out coverage of the Aloha, Beaverton, Jesuit, Southridge, Sunset, Valley Catholic and Westview football teams at beavertonvalleytimes.com.

Southridge in search of new coaches

Trisha Shoemaker was hired to take over for Bryan Sorenson as the Athletic Director at Southridge High School. SHRS has had a lot of changes in its athletic department but is very excited with its new coaching hires to help continue the great athletic traditions at Southridge. Shoemaker and the Skyhawks are looking for a new head varsity softball coach at Southridge High School and a new head water polo coach. If someone is interested they can contact Shoemaker at the This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 503-720-5464. As far as the softball job Southridge doesn't have any specific qualification so it is willing to interview anyone and see if they fit what we are looking for at SRHS.

Top Performers

Coleman Newsom: Newsom, a senior quarterback on the Sunset football team, was superb against Southridge, throwing for four touchdowns in helping the Apollos overcome a 20-point second half deficit to keep Sunset undefeated last Friday. Newsom also ran for 107 yards on the ground.

Gabe Leonard: Leonard, a senior running back on the Sunset football team, was instrumental in helping the Apollos climb out of a three-score hole versus Southridge last Friday. Leonard scored four touchdowns, all through the air from senior quarterback Coleman Newsom in the 55-48 win. Leonard's score in the fourth quarter gave Sunset its first lead of the game.

Callie Kawaguchi: Kawaguchi, a junior forward on the Valley Catholic girls soccer team, scored three goals in the first half against Astoria to help the Valiants crush the Fishermen, 7-0, last week. Senior midfielder/forward Taylor Menkens also added two goals for the fourth-ranked Valiants.

Liam Kiger: Kiger, a senior forward on the Westview boys soccer team, scored the game-tying goal midway through the first half against Jesuit to help the Wildcats come away with a 1-1 draw on Monday night. Jesuit senior forward Cesar Cruz scored the first goal of the game on a breakaway steal.

What's Ahead

Westview at Sunset football: On the heels of a wild, rather improbable 20-point comeback win over Southridge last week, the Apollos have won four straight games and are just one of two remaining undefeated teams in league play along with Jesuit. Sunset will look to avoid any sort of letdown against crosstown rival, Westview, who has struggled as of late, dropping its last two games. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Sunset High School.
