The Southminster Presbyterian Church Foundation in Beaverton recently awarded $10,000 in funds to 11 nonprofit organizations on the Westside.
The organizations that received funds included:
Bienestar: To provide emergency cash to low-income families.
Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon Second Home Program: To help coordinate home providers with the homeless and help unaccompanied youth with safe and secure housing for students in the Beaverton School District.
William Temple House West Food Pantry: To help purchase food from the Oregon Food Bank and local stores as well as some personal health care items that cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits.
Family Promise of Washington County: To purchase educational training materials used to recruit volunteers to speak about homelessness and to recruit churches to be a part of their network of providers of overnight shelter.
Good Neighbor Center: To support small monetary grants it pays on behalf of its residents to help with expenses designed to help them end their homelessness.
Voices Set Free: To assist children and families who have parents/partners in the criminal justice system.
Salvation Army at Tualatin Valley Citadel: To provide funding for its Community Meals Program, which provides nutritious meals twice a week to anyone who walks in the door.
Southwest Community Health Center: To provide funding that allows it to provide basic health care to low-income, uninsured people. Clinical care is provided by physicians volunteering from OHSU and Legacy Health System as well as physicians volunteering from the community at large.
Edwards Center, Inc.: To provide job training on café operation, customer service, cashiering, barista service and management for adults and high school-age youth with developmental disabilities in a full service café.
NAMI of Washington County: To expand support programs and services for youth and transition-age young adults impacted by mental illness in Washington County.
Meals on Wheels: To purchase a storage unity that will allow the group to store supplies, dry goods and non-perishable food items.
