Brett Robinson, who has been employed as a technician since January 2013, turned herself in to authorities at the Washington County Jail on Tuesday and posted $120,000 bail.

Jill Ann Curry, a longtime jail services technician at the jail, was arrested July 8 on charges of first-degree custodial misconduct with an inmate. At her July 28 arraignment, she was charged with six counts of the offense, Class C felonies, as well as 22 additional crimes, including identity theft. She pleaded not guilty.

The investigation into Robinson’s activities arose as a result of the investigation into Curry’s activities.

Robinson faces six counts of first-degree custodial sexual misconduct and six counts of first-degree official misconduct.

"I consider allegations that involve a second jail staff member in this case extraordinarily serious," said Sheriff Pat Garrett. "Addressing these issues demands immediate changes and a thorough, holistic review of protocols within the jail. Both efforts are underway.

"Safety and security of jail staff and inmates remains a very high priority," Garret added. "I am very thankful to investigators from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon State Police for their excellent work on this case."

Ongoing investigation

The Washington County Sheriff's Office first learned of possible criminal conduct involving Robinson on July 28. She is accused of engaging in activity while on the job in the Washington County Jail.

When Robinson returned to work on July 30, the sheriff immediately placed her on administrative leave, according to Sgt. Bob Ray, sheriff's office spokesman.

"Multnomah County Sheriff's Office detectives are completing a comprehensive, independent criminal investigation into the allegations," Ray said. "An internal investigation will also be initiated after the criminal investigation is complete."

On July 31, Robinson was placed on unpaid leave based upon information received during the ongoing investigation and the seriousness of the charges, Ray added.
