Meadow Park Middle School earns distinction as an IB World School

Meadow Park Middle School has been authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School for a three-year Middle Years Programme.

The authorization process typically takes two to three years and consists of four phases — consideration, request for candidacy/decision on candidacy, candidate phase and trial implementation of the programme, and request for authorization/decision on authorization phase.

As a result of this process, parents and students can be confident that each IB World School, no matter where it is located, has:

• Commitment to the IB philosophy with a focus on international-mindedness.

• A rigorous, comprehensive curriculum encouraging student curiosity and inquiry.

• Teachers, leaders and staff trained in the IB programme and philosophy.

• School leadership and administrative structures that serve its mission and support the IB programme.

• A comprehensive plan for implementation and sustainability of the IB programme.

The Middle Years Programme is designed for students ages 11 to 16. It provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers, according to school district officials. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement — essential qualities for young people who are becoming global leaders.

The Middle Years Programme:

• Addresses holistically students’ intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being.

• Provides students opportunities to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need in order to manage complexity and take responsible action for the future.

• Ensures breadth and depth of understanding through study in eight subject groups.

• Requires the study of at least two languages (language of instruction and additional language of choice) to support students in understanding their own cultures and those of others.

• Empowers students to participate in service within the community.

• Helps to prepare students for further education, the workplace and a lifetime of learning.

IB provides a wide range of high-quality professional development opportunities for school leaders and teachers to understand, support and successfully deliver IB programmes.
