Two passengers in crash treated for non life-threatening injuries


A man Beaverton Police Department officers identified as fleeing from a stolen truck after a reported hit-and-run crash on westbound Highway 26 was arrested on Tuesday afternoon.

Jose Duran-Maya, 30, who was found hiding in bushes near the crash site, was arrested and transported to the Hillsboro Police Department on Tuesday afternoon. Beaverton police officers arrived at 2:04 p.m. Tuesday at the scene of a hit-and-run crash involving three vehicles on Sunset Highway at Northwest Cornell Road, said Officer Mike Rowe, spokesman for the Beaverton Police Department.

Witnesses told officers an Hispanic man driving a white Ford truck had fled the scene up onto Cornell Road. Officers were notified the Ford truck had been stolen on Tuesday in Hillsboro during a burglary.

Officers began to search the area for the suspect, who fled from the stolen truck. With the assistance of a Beaverton Police K9 officer and his partner, the suspect was found hiding in bushes in the area of Northwest 153rd Avenue and Oak Hills Drive, Rowe said. Identified as Duran-Maya, the suspect was taken into custody.

Two occupants from one of the vehicles were transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
