Beaverton Farmers Market roars into August with plenty of activities, fresh produce and sun-loving attendees.
Located across from the Beaverton Library, the destination market averages 20,000 visitors each Saturday during the summer. The market is comprised of 130 vendors, including nursery growers, farmers, and ranchers - both conventional and organic - and artisan food producers.
What's fresh this month? Peaches, watermelon, cantaloupe! Berries galore - blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries. The first ears of corn are showing up and green beans, wax beans and Romano beans are finally in season.
New vendors include Helvetia Creamery, which makes Swiss cheeses from the milk they get from their four Brown Swiss Cows; and Oofty Belgian Waffles, an authentic Liege and Brussels-style waffle stand owned and operated by a real Belgian, Pierre the "Waffle Man."
On Aug. 5, the Market Sprouts Kids Club booth, Living Wisdom School, presents Totally Terrific Tomatoes. Kids learn all about the versatile fruit through experiential learning - by seeing tomatoes, touching them, eating them and making fresh Pico de Gallo.
Look forward to these fresh sounds all month:
Aug. 5 - Salsa Music with Isa
Aug. 12 - Sandy Saunders Band
Aug. 19 - Deja Voodoo
Aug. 26 - Fadin By Nine
Get ready for a time warp on Aug. 26, when the Society for Creative Anachronism brings its Medieval Market, with demonstrations, re-enactments and more.
The market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Come on by - and don't forget your shopping bag!
